Impact of US Funding Cuts on HIV Response in Africa
After cutting the US funding for the HIV programmes, Africa is facing serious challenges to fight against HIV. Africa used to spend the funding for HIV testing, treatment, prevention, research, and mobile clinics, which is now available. Despite this cut, other donors and the African government provided some emergency funding, although the amounts are quite low as compared to the US funding. As a result, the sharp drop has been noticed in testing, and some services have closed. Due to lack of services fewer people, especially young and vulnerable communities are being reached.
Experts are warning that due to lack of funding the HIV infections can rise and worsen the conditions.
